self-smiling

A favorite phrase from a personal

Hi all,

I recently came across a line from a personals ad that I just had to share with you. When one woman was asked what she was looking for, a sentence from her answering paragraph read:

I would be most compatible with someone who either has no children or has children.
Really. That would mean that she's "most compatible" with all men, since the union set of "men who have no children" and "men who have children" is the set of all men. Huh?

Hi folks,

More Taiwan photos, plus a short video. These are night-time in Taipei. This set was taken near the Jiantan metro station; they are of the station itself, the people and traffic nearby, and of the Shilin night market. I wanted to see one of the night markets, so this is where I went.

Jiantan station. This is intended to be public art, of a sort.

Hi folks,

More Taiwan photos. These are from Taipei, both the de-facto capital and the most populous city in this island de-facto nation. 2.6M people live here, of the ~23M in the state. This set was taken near the Taipower building and associated subway station. I was doing laundry in the laundromat immediately outside the station. This was boring, so I decided to do a little photo expedition, and you can see some of the results....

Scooters rule the streets here, though there are frequent incursions into the throng by buses, cars, heavy-duty trucks, and even pedestrians.

Hi folks,

More Taiwan photos. These are from a trip to a communal farming compound--both demonstration and working--of one of Taiwan's indigenous peoples.

Lookout tower over the fields, farms and farmed-fish areas.

Hi folks,

More Taiwan photos from Taroko Gorge.

This was hanging in a huge web above the trail. It wasn't moving much, but it was plenty big enough to be creepy--probably 5" across the legs.

Hi folks,

Yet more Taiwan photos from Taroko Gorge.

A decorative marble lion. Apparently the Taroko / Hualien area was rich from days of antiquity because there was lots of marble to be quarried nearby. This is an example of the stone in a finished product.
